Walking by
Acrylic and Pencil on Canvas
Continuing my exploration of comic techniques in a 'fine art' context, "Walking by" reflects the issue of homelessness. Having grown up in a smaller city, homelessness was never really in the forefront of my mind until spending two years in Vancouver. It is an extraordinary wake up call. It's like people living in a different world that we can watch through glass, just observe as we walk by. Tableaus. Live photographs A sound bite fo the news. Some sort of societal museum. And we just walk by... until that day you chose not to. Until that day you recognize that they are people. They are family. They are friends. They are you, if only by a twist of fate. Until that day you reach out and help.
